We Are
Receiving A Kingdom: Hebrews 12:28
Christians
receive so many blessings from God. On the receiving end, we
have things like: acceptance (Eph.1:6), love (John 3:16),
redemption (Eph.1:7), and salvation (1Pet.3:21).
But the Bible
also tells us, “Therefore since we are receiving a
kingdom, which cannot be shaken, let us have grace. Whereby
we may serve God acceptably with reverence and Godly
fear.” (Heb.12:28).
The Church of
Christ is a great blessing that we have received. The Church
is the kingdom. And it should always have a special place in
our hearts.
Jesus said of the
Kingdom it was “to come with power” (Mk.9:1).
Note this power came to the Apostles on “the day of
Pentecost”, shortly after the resurrection of Christ
(Acts 2:1-4).
Paul explained,
in Colossians 1:13, that Christians are
“translated”(KJV) or
“transferred”(ESV) “to the kingdom of
His beloved Son” (Col.1:13). No one can be
“transferred” or put into a kingdom unless the
kingdom already exists.
When we look at
Colossians 1:13 as well as Hebrews 12:28 we can see that the
kingdom that is in existence today is the final kingdom!
We see this
because Hebrews says, “we are receiving a kingdom that
cannot be shaken…” (Heb.12:28).
Logically, if a
kingdom cannot be “shaken”(NKJV) or
“moved”(KJV) the kingdom we’ve
“received” (Heb.12:28)— will stand
forever! Therefore no God-ordained earthly kingdom can be
established in the future.
When people look
for a new kingdom to be established, after the one we are
presently in, (a kingdom which “cannot be
shaken”) they are missing the point of the greatness
of what they already have received.
The Church is a
kingdom that is comprised of “enrolled”
citizens whose homeland is heaven (Heb.12:23).
The kingdom is
spiritual, and not physical. For Jesus said, My kingdom is
not of this world!” (Jn.18:36). Some ignore the
simplicity of Jesus’ statement here, and imagine that
there will be a new physical kingdom set up in literal
Jerusalem. That hypothesis though, is in direct opposition to
our present final spiritual kingdom (Dan.2:44, Zec.6:13,
Lk.1:32, Jn.18:36, Heb.12:28).
We are living in
the “last days” (Acts 2:16-17) and therefore
should feel honored to be apart of God’s final kingdom
on earth— the church.
Hebrews says that
since we have received this kingdom— we need to:
“have grace”, have “reverence”,
and “fear God” (Heb.12:28).
God blesses us
with love and salvation. But may we never overlook the
blessing of the Church— a kingdom that will live
forever. May we all eagerly await the great day, when all of
her citizens arrive at their home country— heaven.
