Spiritual Thanksgiving
When I hear the
word “thanksgiving” I think of food, family,
friends, and images of the Plymouth Plantation Pilgrims and
the Iroquois and northern Algonquin Indians of the eastern
woodland regions coming together to share in blessings of
God’s bountiful autumn harvest. You may think of some
of these things, too; And, for many "Thanksgiving Day" is all
about fun!
Yet there are
things that are far more important than getting together to
have a jolly time of fellowship with friends and family.
The reality of
the Christian, is that there is spiritual thanksgiving every
day. When one becomes a Christian and decides to be baptized,
there aught to be thanksgiving, because baptism is for
“the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38). Every day,
Christians have the ability to pray to God with thanksgiving
because he has forgiving an old life of sinfulness.
Also we can be
thankful for the quick accessibility we have to the Bible.
Prior to the invention of the printing press, Bibles were
written by hand. Yet, today we can read the Bible in printed
form, over the computer, and even in PDA’s & cell
phones.
God’s
Salvation plan and God’s Salvation message deserve our
thanks, But so does God’s mercy.
We can be
thankful for the abounding grace that God has bestowed upon
each of us. For we are saved by grace through faith.
(Eph.2:8). The Lord knows none of us are pristinely perfect
and sinless. So, we can be very thankful that we have
God’s boundless love and favorable pardon that gives
us hope.
Remission of
Sins, accessibility of the Bible, and God’s grace are
all things for which we can be thankful.
Many will be on
the roads, traveling during this holiday. Many will thank God
for family, friends and food. Let us also remember that we
can thank Him for His plan of Salvation (Acts 2), His
inspired word [2 Tim.3:16] and His grace that saves
[Eph.2:8].
If we do this we
will be people who realize that every day is a day of
thanksgiving. By: J.R. Rosado
